Renato Garcia: "The World Cup will change everything"

Renato Garcia, Managing Director of RG Salamanca, says that Natal will gain visibility with the World Cup.

"I am proud of Natal’s achievement." Thus, the consultant Renato Garcia welcomed the choice of the city as one of the venues of the 2014 World Cup. Managing Director of RG Salamanca, a result of Garcia's association with the English group Salamanca Management. Renato Garcia will lead one of many planned investments for the city until 2014. Today, in addition to fund investment, the company takes care of resource management and consulting work for large companies. Recently RG Salamanca showed their importance when they acquired 50% of Ecocil shares, the most traditional constructor of the state and they have big plans for the Natal World Cup. In this interview, Renato Garcia talks about the importance of Natal in hosting the World Cup games in 2014.

What changes now that Natal has been chosen as one of the venues of the 2014 Cup?

It changes everything. Being one of the biggest events on the planet, with a start and stop date, the Cup imposes deadlines on major works of infrastructure in the metropolitan area of Natal. It will end the current delay in schedules. It will be impossible to work sluggishly. The World Cup is very professional. This is an event that takes a huge priority. This means that the projects for which the current government fought so hard for will gain more momentum with the PAC’S Cup resources (PAC - the government’s program to accelerate economic growth). And, of course, there will be investments from a series of private groups.

Will the Cup give international visibility?

Yes. Especially for Natal which is a tourism city, it will be very interesting. It means a return to advertising and marketing that doesn’t have a price, given the value that it represents.

Do you think the choice of areas for the Machadão and the Administrative Centre was right?

The government of the state showed huge competence by making that choice. If the stadium was out of Natal, as was once being considered, I'm certain we would have lost the bid. The areas of Machadão and the Administrative Centre are technically perfect. They are the best in town. They have the dimensions and are equally ideal for hotels, hospitals, bus station, ultimately, they are in the heart of the city.

It is a challenge to receive the World Cup?

An enormous challenge. Something that should be faced without fear if it is well thought out and planned. The state government got it right again with their association with Price Waters House Coopers in the pre-feasibility study and with HOK SVE on the architectural issue.

What does it represent to the future of the city?

Indeed, it represents a lot for all Potiguares (name given to those born in the state of Rio Grande do Norte). It is sufficient reason to feel proud. Personally I am very proud of this achievement.
